[lang_en]Shimla: Newly revamped youth congress demanded that quota for Himachal students in private institutions be raised and sought making educational loans interest free to promote quality professional education.
Speaking to the media, Manmohan Katoch, the new president youth congress said, “seats reserved for Himachal students in private institutions needed to be enhanced from the existing 25 percent quota. Education loans for students studying in professional courses should be made interest free.”
Dismissing the BJP government’s claims about reducing unemployment by creating new job avenues, he said that it was another attempt to befool the young because those already engaged in teaching assignments by Parent Teacher Associations (PTA) were facing dismissal.
Snatching jobs from one and passing them onto another would not reduce unemployment but was only politicizing the issue, he said.
The new youth congress president asked the government to permit universities to function autonomously and not meddle into day to day affairs. Advocating a regulatory mechanism in higher education, he said that fee structure, course seats and institutional infrastructure needed to be monitored either by the university itself or by a seperate education regulatory commission[/lang_en]
