Threat of an epidemic breaking out looms large over several villages in the Gehlot and Shanwlaghat, the gram panchayats, near Shimla as the residents are getting contaminated water from the last six months.
Rajesh Shandil, the pradhan of Shyawalaghat told My Himachal News that for the past six months sewerage water of Central Jail, Kanda is getting mixed with the water sources for these villages of Shanwlaghat, Gehlot, Manjla, Ladwi and others, all of which fall are under Mashobra block. Other residents said that after drinking the water their children were frequently falling victim to diarrhea and other water borne diseases.
The Panchayat Pradhan further said that he has been filling complaints to the Superintendent of the Central Jail and has also complained to HIMUDA authorities to consider the situation. However, except assurances nothing has been done to solve the problem. The residents fear a break out of endemic water borne diseases in the area, said Shandil.
