Himachal government asks Centre to facilitate IIT’s first batch from current session

Prem Kumar Dhumal, the Chief Minister has requested the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh to take necessary steps to get the first batch started for the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) sanctioned for the state from current academic session as had been done in the case of other states sanctioned IITs along with Himachal Pradesh.

He also asked the Government of India to evaluate the land identified for the purpose at Mandi before the scheduled visit of the central inspection team to the same while the necessary infrastructure was to be created within the campus. Stating that the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee would be the main centre for advanced and technical guidance to the students of the institute, he expressed hope that the Union Government would consider the request of the state government and take effective steps to initiate the admission process for the IIT courses from current academic session thereby saving one precious year of the students.
