Shimla:
An honour for Himachal Police, Director General Ashwani Kumar has been appointed as the new Director of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), and would be heading the country’s top investigating agency.
Ashwani Kumar, DGP Himachal is a 1976 IPS batch officer who has earlier served in the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Others in the race for the top CBI position were ML Kumawat (1971 batch, Andhra Pradesh cadre), JK Datta (1976 batch, West Bengal), who is the chief of National Security Guards, and ML Sharma, a 1972 batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre.
Vijay Shankar retired as CBI director earlier today.
