Himachal debt waiver to cost Rs 259.80 Cr
Shimla: The debt waiver announced by UPA government is going to benefit about 99 thousand small and marginal farmers in Himachal giving a relief of about Rs 260 crores on the agricultural loans due from them.
Ripan Murgai, field general manager and convenor HP State Level Bankers Committee disclosed that the various banks in the state had identified 94976 small and marginal farmers had been given complete waiver of their agricultural loan dues amounting to Rs 242.97 Crores. He added that 3789 other farmers had been provided a debt relief of Rs 16.83 Crores.
Murgai said that all banks in the state had completed the identification process and the lists of the farmers who have been given debt relief have also been displayed at all the branches of all the concerned banks.
Nationalized public sector banks had identified 32379 farmers for waiver of loans amounting to Rs 100.03 crores and 1971 farmers for debt relief amounting to Rs 4.35 crores in the state.
Regional Rural Banks had identified 8262 farmers for complete waiver of loans amounting to Rs 15.98 crores and 144 farmers for providing relief amounting to Rs 23 lakhs.
Cooperative Sector Banks had identified the largest number of farmers in the state and reported 54335 farmers who have been identified for complete waiver of their loans amounting to Rs 139.21 crores.
All Banks in the state will issue certificates to all the farmers benefiting from the scheme. Banks will receive complaints from the farmers and dispose them off within a time bound period and all the banks have a grievance redressal mechanism in place, he said.
