Shimla: With the rise of petrol and diesel price across the country, the taxi operators of Himachal Pradesh have decided to hike 10% in fares.
Leaders of various taxi unions have revolted against the increase on sales tax on behalf of all the taxi operators, in this manner.
“We will wait for the state government’s decision for another 1-2 days and if no reduction of sales tax is announced to minimise impact of recent hike in prices of petrol and diesel, we will be forced to increase taxi fare by 10 per cent,” Madan Bansal, President of Vishal HP Taxi Union, Shimla, said today.
There is a fear of the rise in the fare by truckers as a result of taxi operators’ fare hike. If this happens then indirectly fruits and vegetables will also increase their price. The hike in the truck fares will come as a big shock to the apple growers as the fruit is transported by trucks.

The way taxi wallahs fleece in Shimla is phenomenal..!! Taxi fares in Shimla must be the highest among all hill stations. The way commuters are looted during night and early morning hours would put the notorious Delhi taxi wallas to shame.
Don’t beleive me.. Arrive at Shimla Bus Stand late in the night or early morning and try and get a taxi to your home.
And if you think, it is the taxi wallas helping themselves with your money, have a first hand experience with the various car parkings around the city. Most of these upon seeing HP number simply refuse that there is no space available. If you are lucky enough to get your car inside, the amount they ask is over the roof and then they never offer you a receipt.
