One shot dead 4 injured in firing at Shoghi industrial unit

Dr. Anil Mahlotra, the treating doctor at IGMC hospital said, “Amarjit Singh (24, a resident of Mashobra) with a bullet injury in the head was brought dead to the hospital. Another person, Pankaj has a bullet injury on the arm which had caused a fracture. Three others, Sunil, Ravi Kant and Ashok with bullet pellets embedded in their soft tissue have been admitted to the hospital.”

A trouble between the management and the workers union brewing over the sacking of 9 employees by the management is assumed to have caused this scene.

RM Sharma, SP Shimla, said, “In the afternoon when the union workers tried to submit a memorandum about their demands to the management, personal security guards stopped them from meeting the managing director of the unit. These guards later resorted to unprovoked firing killing one person and injuring four others.

We have arrested 8 persons and have seized five weapons. The weapons seized are licensed and include revolvers and pistols.”

A case under 302/34 of IPC and section 25 of the arms act has been registered against the guards, said the district police chief.

Among those arrested is Vijay Kumar Tripathi, the general manager of Tigaksha Metallics (Supermax) Shoghi that manufactures disposable razors at the unit.

A traffic jam of about five hours blocked the Kalka-Shimla highway at Shoghi as a huge crowd gathered and blocked the traffic. At about 7.30 in the evening police managed to negotiate with the protesting crowd to open the traffic. Earlier the crowd went on the rampage and damaged and partially burnt 5 buses and 2 small vehicles of the company.
