Shimla: Himachal police chief Ashwani Kumar is in the race for the top job in CBI, reports Times of India.
Kumar, DGP Himachal is a 1976 IPS batch officer who has earlier served in the Central Bureau of Investigation.
Others in the race are ML Kumawat (1971 batch, Andhra Pradesh cadre), JK Datta (1976 batch, West Bengal), who is the chief of National Security Guards, and ML Sharma, a 1972 batch IPS officer of Rajasthan cadre.
The present incumbent Vijay Shankar, retires in July.
