KUMARHATTI: The ongoing hunger strike of workers of Euro Cell at Gulerwaala near Baddi took new turn when a senior official of unit along with security guards threatened the agitating workers with dire consequences late last night. Mr. Sanjay Kumar the leader of agitating workers accused that at around 11 pm, the official of unit started abusing them badly.
In an apparent inebriated condition the official first put brakes to his bike just near the agitating workers then started threatening them without any provocation.
The workers, who were 30 in number during the incidence time, reported the matter to police. Till the time police reached at spot the five security guards of unit joined the official abusing the workers.
They have allegedly threatened the workers in case they continued their agitation. The police have registered a case against unit official.
Meanwhile Mr. Jagdish Bhardwaj the President of HP AITUC under whose banner the workers were staging protest said that the workers have approached the CM twice but with no result. The unit management has withdrawn salary allowances of about 160 workers of unit without any reason, he said.
The workers have turned their protest into chain hunger strike six days back. The workers agitation was on from the past 20 days after talk between management and workers failed. The Euro Cell manufactures dry battery cell.
