CII, PHDCC to upgrade ITIs

KUMARHATTI: The CII HP State Council and PHD Chamber of Commerce have all set to revolutionize the industrial education in state. Under plan the CII has already taken over 7 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) for up gradation in state under envisions for ‘Building Himachal’. Elaborating the endeavour, Mr. Rajinder Guleria, Chairman CII HP State Council said here today that the move was targeted to strengthen the industry-institute partnership under central government scheme – public private partnership model (PPP).

The central government has already granted Rs. 2.50 crore each for listed ITIs, said Mr. Guleria adding that PHD Chambers of Commerce have also selected two ITIs in state. In the initial process the CII has selected ITIs at Nalagarh, Kasauli, Nehran Pukhar (Kangra district), Hamirpur, Dharamsala, Bilaspur and Barthin (Bilaspur district). The ITIs at Ponta Sahib and Palampur would be looked after by PHD Chamber of Commerce, he said.

Under plan a state steering committee has been constituted that would work for the empowerment of Institute Management Committees (IMC), pointed out Mr. Guleria. The IMC would directly involve in its respective ITI involving curriculum of courses as well as finalizing inputs related to practical training of students, he maintained.

The each IMC was comprised of 10 members shared equally from industries and state government with its chairman from industrial sector. Whereas the state steering committee was being headed by Secretary, Technical Education with three each members from indusitres and government respectively.

Mr. Guleria further said that the move would help in great way to provide industrial professionals. It would also counter problem of lack of skilled manpower in state industries, he asserted.
