Shimla: Setting aside plans of opening another medical college in the government sector located in Mandi district, the BJP government has shelved the notification made by the previous congress government and announced that the proposed medical college would be in the private sector instead.
Health minister, Rajiv Bindal told My Himachal News on Friday that the government has decided that the proposed medical colleges for Mandi and Hamirpur district would be in private sector.
Braving snowy conditions, the minister made a surprise visit to Indira Gandhi Medical college and hospital in the state capital to oversee functioning of the institution under trying conditions.
Speaking with department heads, Bindal said that it would be the endeavour of the government to see that the state hospital emerged as a pioneer health institution.
Reiterating that there was no incidence of bird flu in the state, the minister said that movement of poultry and monitoring of migratory birds in the two reservoirs was being done regularly as a precautionary measure. He said that provision of separate isolation ward would be made in all district hospitals.
