Shimla:Having recorded a generation of 6000 million units of electricity, Nathpa Jhakri hydro power plant has become the first single hydro power station in the country to have done so.
Vijay Verma, general manager Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam said that the Jhakri plant surpassed the 6000 million unit generation record on Thursday, 53 days ahead of the financial year closure. The generation achieved during the current period had already surpassed the target set by the power ministry, he said.
This highest generation was achieved against all odds as the plant faced adverse hydrology, flash floods and high-silt contents, he said.
In 2006-07 the total generation at Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station was 5941 million units, said Verma.
During 2006-07 SJVNL had posted a profit of Rs.732.71 crore and also paid Rs 235 crore as dividends to the central government and the government of Himachal who have a 75:25 equity share in the hydro plant.
Considered the country’s largest hydro-electric plant that was commissioned in 2003, the power from the Jhakri plant feed the northern grid and meets the needs Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, J&K, Chandigarh and Himachal Pradesh.
