Shimla:
One persons was burnt alive and 11 shops gutted in a devastating fire that broke out in a local market here early morning today, causing an estimated loss of Rs one crore, said Tarun Kapoor, the Shimla Deputy Commissioner.
”The fire, which broke out in one of the shops at about 3 a.m. and soon spread to the adjoining shops in the local Sabzi Mandi market, he said.
Kapoor said, the person who was burnt has only been identified as a Nepali labourer, who and was sleeping in the upper portion of a country liquor shop in the market. Cause of fire could not be immediately known.
Firemen battled with blazing inferno for over four hours and prevented it from spreading to thickly populated adjoining markets, he said.
The district administration has announced an immediate relief of Rs 5,000 each to the businessmen whose shops were gutted in the incident. Investigations have been started to ascertain the cause of the fire, said Kapoor.
