HAMIRPUR: Hamirpur Additional District Magistrate, Hira Singh Thakur has stressed the need to help the disabled persons so that they may stand on their feet and lead a happy and peaceful life. He said that such persons were also part and parcel of the society and were accepted by all.
Presiding over a function on the district level Disabled day here today, he appealed to the members of the panchayati raj institutions and other government organizations to extend helping hand to those who were living in deplorable condition.
Duni Chand Thakur, the district Programme officer of the department of Social welfare told the meeting on occasion that there were 4,222 identified disabled persons in the district. These include 636 blind, 699 deaf and dumb, 411 mentally retarded and rest of 2,476 physically handicapped.
