Hamir festival starts in Hamirpur

guv1.JPGHAMIRPUR: Himachal Pradesh Governor, Justice V.S.Kokje inaugurated two day state level Hamir Utsav here last evening by offering puja at the local Shiva temple. This utsav (festival) coincides with the creation of separate district of Hamirpur on September 1, 1972. Two more districts of Una and Solan were also created on that day. Hamirpur Deputy Commissioner, Nandita Gupta and other senior district level officers accompanied the Governor to the temple.

However, Hamir utsav is organized in the month of November every year as per the traditions started from the beginning of the festival.

guv3.JPGJustice Kokje visited the exhibition pandal set up in the local school ground and evinced keen interest in the exhibitions.

He also patted those whose exhibitions were pretty good. He told them to prepare good items every time so that locally made products are in great demand in various parts of state and India.

The Governor witnessed the cultural programme presented by different cultural troupes on the occasion. Hema Serdesai famous playback singer was the main attraction of last star night of Utsav.

Speaking on the occasion, Justice Kokje said that fairs and festivals are symbol of our cultural heritage through which we can exchange cultural guv2.JPGactivities and also educate younger generations about our rich culture. He said that such festivities would also go a long way in exhibiting the cultural traditions of the State and products of particular area also. He further said that these fairs and festivals also provide a platform for the artists to exhibit their talent.

Ms. Nandita Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, Hamirpur welcomed the Governor and presented shawl, Himachali cap and Memento to the Governor.

A souvenir was also released by the Governor on the occasion.
