Naldhera to host Emaar MGF Golf championship

Shimla: Corporate leaders along with former cricketers Kapil Dev and Ajay Jadeja are to participate in the one day Emaar MGF Golf Championship – 2007, to be held on October 13at the Naldehra Golf course, stated Avay Shukla, an additional chief secretary with the state government.

He said that this championship is first of its kind in the region and is expected to attract a large number of CEOs from the country. “The event would provide an impetus to catapult Naldehra into a favoured golfing as well as conference destination, thereby attracting high end tourist to the state, said Shukla.

The golf course was being upgraded with the acquisition of another 40 bighas of land so that national level tournaments could also be held here, he said.

The history of golf in Himachal is almost 100 years of old and this golf course has been in existence since 1905. The then Viceroy of India, Lord Curzon fell so much in love this picturesque spot that he named his youngest daughter Alexandra as Alexandra Naldehra. This golf course is 18 holes with 68 Par and its yardage is 4519.
