Resentment over discontinuation of work on road

SOLAN: The discontinuation of metalling work on 12-km long Parwanoo- Bhojnagar road has sparked a wide spread resentment among residents of Banasar panchayat under Dharampur block. The residents alleged that the metal work was supposed to be completed in one year. However from past three and half year hardly Rs. 55 lakh out of the sanctioned Rs. 1.95 cr has been incurred on road, they rued.

The work on road was approved under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Sadak Yojana. The road was a direct link to Banasar the remote panchayat of area. Till now hardly any work has done on road by the PWD, accused Mr. Upender Sharma, former Pradhan of Banasar panchayat. The entire stretch of road was kutcha except few kilometers from Parwanoo onwards till the Khreen village, he said.

The condition of kutcha road was virtually in mess due to rain in past time. There was slush and water at many points. The landslips have also reported many places. The plying of vehicles on road was a hard affair. The sole bus service to Banasar having 35 seats usually carry load to its double. The passengers have no other option that to travel by this only mean of transport to their home back despite knowing the danger involved in it.

The children enrolled in schools at Parwanoo and those employed with industrial units were the worse sufferers due to the bad condition of road. Moreover nowadays there was vegetable season in full swing but growers of area have to incur extra transportation charges to carry the produce from long route through the Joharji.
