Onkar Sharma, Commissioner, Transport said here today that Himachal Pradesh Government notified the Taxi Meter Scheme, 2006 on dated 8th December, 2006 and the scheme became operative in the notified towns of Shimla and Dharmshala from 11th March, 2007.
He said that the scheme was challenged by the various Taxi operators/stakeholders in High Court of Himachal Pradesh through Civil Writ Petitions. The High Court decided the matter on 5th September, 2007 and the Motor Cab Operators of notified towns are required to affix meters on their cabs immediately in public interest latest by 20th October, 2007, he added.
He further said that the motor cab operators were directed to get the meters from authorized dealers i.e. M/.s, Shimla View Body Building, P.O. Tara Devi, Tehsil and District Shimla, HP (Dealer) and M/s. Walia Traders, 29 Civil Lines, Opposite Vivekanand Park, Dharmshala, HP (Sub-Dealer) duly approved by the Controller Legal Metrology (Weights & Measures).. H.P. Shimla.
He said that the delinquent operators who do not abide by the High Court of Himachal Pradesh shall be liable to be dealt as per the statutory provisions of Section-86 of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988 which stipulate the cancellation/suspension of permit. He told that the action would be initiated after 20th October, 2007 as per the provisions of Motor Vehicle Act, 1988
