Virbhadra Singh, Chief Minister said that the State Government was endeavouring to develop more catchment areas in the State with a view to increase the green cover and preserve the ecology of the State. He was discussing future programmes with the visiting Delhi State Chief Minister, Mrs. Sheela Dikshit, at Seog village Shimla Water Supply Catchment Area in the suburbs of Shimla which they visited today.
He apprised her about the water supply system in the catchment area originated in the year of 1875 when the collection and supply of the water was started for the population of 16,000 persons through gravitational process. He said that the area has major storage tank of 24 lakh gallons capacity constructed in the year 1901, which had been meeting the water requirements from the initial years of the development of Shimla town.
Chief Minister directed the authorities to make a detailed plan to restore the historical forest rest house at Seog so that people visiting the catchment area were facilitated with boarding and lodging facilities.
