Air Marshal JK Gupta has been appointed as Director General (Medical Service) Air. He has taken over the charge from Air Mshl HK Maini today at Air HQ (RKP) New Delhi.
Air Marshal J K Gupta an alumni of Armed Forces Medical College, Pune was commissioned on 15 Jan 1970. With more than 37 years of service, he will be occupying the highest chair that a medical officer in IAF can aspire. His innate interest in Aviation and the aviator urged him to specialize in Aviation Medicine in 1975. Since then he has had a very successful career as a specialist and a friend of the aviator. This is borne out of his long stints at the institute of Aerospace Medicine at Bangalore, where he contributed not only in Research and Medical Evolution but was recognized by Bangalore University and later Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences as Professor in Aerospace Medicine. During his tenure with DGCA he represented the country in a number of ICAO Medical Conferences.
The Air Officer has commanded prestigious institutes like Air Force Central Medical Establishment, Delhi and Command Hospital Air Force, Bangalore. Preceding these assignments he has served as Principal Medical Officer (PMO) Eastern Air Command, South Western Air Command & Training Command.
Air Mshl Gupta has been awarded with Atti Vishist Seva Medal in Year 2005 for his Distinguished service and appointed as President’s Honorary Surgeon in 2006. After serving as Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces) under Ministry of Defence from June 2006 he has assumed the appointment of Director General Medical Service (Air) with effect from 01 Apr 07.
Air Mshl Gupta belongs to Himachal Pradesh from Arki in Solan district.
