T.N.S.-The setting up of 412 MW Rampur hydroelectric project in Himachal Pradesh, at an estimated cost of Rs 2,047 crore, was cleared by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs today. The project to be executed by the Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) on the Sutlej in Shimla and Kulu districts was cleared in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh this evening.Finance Minister P Chidambaram said the project would cost Rs 2,047.03 crore. The SJVN will arrange equity of Rs 614.11 crore from its internal accruals and Rs 1,432.91 crore through commercial loans. He said the setting up of this project would reduce the power shortage in the northern region of the country and the benefits from the project were expected by 2011-2012. The project site is located near Jhakri village, upstream of Rampur Bushahr town in Shimla district
