Himachal’s Chander Abha Mahila Kalyan Mandal Kullu won National Award for Child Welfare

Himachal based Chander Abha Mahila Kalyan Mandal Kullu has won National Award for Child Welfare for the year 2005.

Union Women Welfare and Child Development Minister Smt. Renuka Chaudhary and Chairman, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development, Shri Janardhan Dwedi presented the citation and Rs. three lakh cash prize to Shri Dharamveer Dhami, President, Chander Abha Mahila Kalyan Mandal, Kullu in a function at New Delhi today in recognition of his services for welfare of visually impaired and mentally retarded children with multiple disabilities.

Shri Dharamveer Dhami, President said the Institution has opened a special school for the blind. At present 21 blind and 31 visually impaired children are getting education and computer training in the school. The Institution is also providing regular health check up facilities and medicines to other needy children. It has organized many camps and distributed medicines medical aid and appliances to 57 children. The Institution has also encouraged handicapped children to participate in sports and other co-curricular activities like dance, singing, drawing and paining etc. The organization is spreading awareness among the people through Gram Pancchayat and Anganwadi workers regarding prevention of disability.
