Industries Minister said that cement production in the State would be increased to 14 million tonnes per annum. He was speaking in the Mineral Advisory Council Meeting at New Delhi today. State Government was considering to set up five new Cement Plants in the State. He said that Himachal Pradesh was one of the lime-stone rich States in the country and the State ranked 6th in the country in terms of total reserve of lime-stone and 8th in lime-stone production.
Industries Minister said that Himachal Pradesh was only State in the country to have working rock salt mine and added that the State was also known for good quality slates which attracted international buyers due to pleasing colour, durability and uniformity in thickness.
He added State Government was seriously considering de-reserving the entire Sirmour district for economic and scientific exploitation which was reserved under erstwhile rule 58 of mineral concessions rules-1960.
He said that State Government was seriously concerned to check the illegal mining in the State and added that Government had notified ‘Himachal Pradesh Minerals (Prevention of Illegal Mining, Transportation and Storage) Rules 2004’ and had also set up State-level and District-level Committees to check the illicit mining in the State.
