Explosives seized from Six Nepalis by CRPF

Shimla: The Hindu reported six Nepal citizens heading from somewhere near Shimla to Uttrakhand were arrested by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for possessing explosives without legal permission at the Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Sector 17, Chandigarh. The police but added that the arrested men were not likely to have any terror links.

The police recovered 12 gelatin sticks, two high-end explosives, six small detonators, a seven-metre fuse wire and 18 small bearings from their possession. They were also carrying two identity cards issued in Nepal and about Rs.3,000 in cash with them.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) S S Srivastava and Commandant of 111 Signals Battalion of CRPF addressed a joint press conference at the Sector 17 police station.
“The accused were from Rulpa district in Nepal and worked as labourers in the mines of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. They came to Chandigarh from a place near Shimla. They said they had stolen the explosives and were taking them to Uttarakhand. Their plan was to use the explosives to blast rocks.”

“Our personnel noticed the group alighting from the bus. They were not being able to decide which bus to board for their further journey. They also got nervous as the CRPF personnel approached them. Our men checked their luggage and found the explosives,” a senior CRPF officer said. [Source: The Indian Express]
