Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is trying to get over with those big paper files and registers by substituting them with computerized system. Today, Food and Civil Supplies Department poised for its computerization.
While addressing a meeting, Ms. Harinder Hira, Additional Chief Secretary, Food and Civil Supplies said that all the processes right from procurement of food grains to the actual distribution to the people would be computerized.
This effort is being taken to bring transparency and efficiency in implementing Public Distribution Scheme of food grains. Moreover, it would eliminate bogus and duplicate cards; ration shops would have accurate stock position on daily basis and the information could be disseminated to beneficiary through various means such as voice supported system, internet, SMS through mobile so that dealers cannot cheat consumers.
The system will be implemented in one district on trail basis then it’ll be put into operation in other districts, added Hira.
Raised in Shimla and originally from Mandi district, Disha wears many caps which includes being part of a lead team of a fast growing IT company based out of Chandigarh. Earlier Disha was associated with My Himachal and visits Shimla regularly.
Computerising inventory is a great idea. How this would be implemented in rural areas is to be seen where there are no regular PDS shops and the same have been sub contracted to local lalaji. Nevertheless, a begining is being made.
