Chandigarh, April 25 (IANS) Haryana Police have arrested two men on suspicion of running a betting racket on the Indian Premier League (IPL) matches from Sector 31 of Faridabad, police officials said Thursday.
The arrested men were allegedly running the racket in different towns of Haryana, including Panchkula, Ambala, Karnal and Panipat, and police suspect they also had links in national capital Delhi.
The two accused were identified as Anil Sharma and Vaibhav Kumar, both residents of Faridabad, Haryana.
“Working on a tip-off, we raided a shop located in the main commercial area of Sector 31. The accused were running this racket from the basement of a shop. We have recovered over Rs.10,000 in cash, a cheque for Rs.50,000 and five mobile phones from their possession,” a senior official of Haryana Police said.
“We are scrutinizing the call details of both accused for the last month. we have found that they were in constant touch with other bookies in Panchkula, Ambala, Karnal and Delhi. Their interrogation is on and different raiding teams have been constituted to nab the remaining accused,” the police officer said.
Police said the men had mostly young clients, who were contacted over e-mail and through different social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter or Orkut.
