Washington, April 25 (IANS) Highlighting the rapidly growing trade and economic engagement between India and the US, Indian ambassador Nirupama Rao has conveyed her deep appreciation to a key lawmaker for his support for high-skilled immigration.
The ambassador discussed this issue of significant interest for Indian businesses in the US during a meeting Monday with Robert Menendez, Democratic chairman of the senate foreign relations committee. There was also a discussion on the proposed immigration reform bill proposed by the Senate Gang of Eight of which Menendez is a member, , according to an Indian Embassy media release.
Menendez, who is also a member of the Senate India Caucus, has long championed the interests of the Indian American community in the US Congress.
Rao and Menendez also exchanged views on the latest developments in India-US relations and highlighted the shared values and interests binding their strategic partnership, the Embassy release said.
“They expressed appreciation for the strength provided to this partnership by the rich and vibrant contributions of the Indian American community in the United States.” It said.
Rao and Menendez also exchanged views on the regional situation in South Asia.
Rao invited Senator Menendez to visit India. He accepted the invitation for such a visit at a mutually convenient time, the release said.
