Shimla: A heated altercation took place at the Himachal Pradesh University when ABVP (Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad) representatives went to present a memorandum of their demands to Mr. Chander Shekhar, one of the newly elected Executive Council (EC) members. They were demanding that vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff be filled at the earliest. AVBP activists also demanded that the recently proposed semester system in UG (Under Graduate) courses be terminated.
Campus Secretary of ABVM, Mr. Navneet Kaushal alleged that EC Member, instead of responding to their demands, misbehaved with the ABVP activists. He also alleged that EC member Mr. Chander Shekar tore apart their memorandum, causing heated arguments.
The HPU campus, in the midst of the nuisance, was in the grip of tension for many hours at a stretch.
Later on, Mr. Chander Shekhar apologized to the students. The incident took place just one day before Chief Minister’s visit to the university. He is scheduled to attend the NSUI cultural function.
