Shimla : A leopard cub caused a flutter when it entered a residential area of Shimla today . A local man captured the animal and handed it over to wildlife officials of the Himachal Pradesh government .
“I saw a cub walking into a residential area near Dhalli on the outskirts of Shimla . Thinking it might cause harm to children I caught the animal and immediately handed it over to wildlife officials ,†said Somnath , a taxi driver who caught the animal on the national highway .
Later Sushil Modgil , DFO , Zoo and Rescue said , “After a veternary doctor examines the cub properly we will release the animal back into the wild .â€
This is the second time this year when leopard cubs have strayed into Shimla .
Animal activists attribute this due to the shrinking habitat of leopards and other wild animals in the state often leading to man , animal conflict .
