Dharamshala: The water level of the Pandoh dam on river Beas is increasing due to melting snow on the peaks in the catchment area of Beas river. Due to continuous increase of water level, the dam can be opened at any time.
SDM- Dehra (Kangra ) Dhanveer Thakur has urged tourists and people living in the vicinity of Beas river to stay away from the river. He has also asked police, revenue and other government officers of Dehra, Rakkad, Jaswana, Dadasiba, Haripur and Pragpur to warn the people of the area about water likely to be released from upstream Pandoh dam.
Built in 1977, the Pandoh dam diverts the water of the Beas to the south west through a 38 km (24 mi) long system of tunnels and channels. The water is used for power generation at the Dehar Power House before being discharged into the Sutlej River, connecting both the two Himalayan rivers.
