Shimla: With tourism activities in disarray, Himachal Tourism has slashed room tariffs by as much as 50 % to increase occupancy rates even as heavy rains continue to lash the hill state.
“Room rent discount in Himachal Tourism (HPTDC) hotels is being slashed by upto 50% with immediate effect,” said Amit Kashyap, MD of the state corporation. The discount is valid till 1st September, he added.
The room rent discount is being offered due to the heavy rainfall in the state over the last few days to accommodate the tourists and increase hotel occupancy of the corporation, said Kashyap.
Heavy rains across the hill state has disrupted tourism badly as many rivers and streams in spate have left a trail of heavy damages by washing away highways, bridges, hotels and wayside eateries.
Resorting to emergency measures, state authorities were safely able to evacuate about 70,000 tourists from Manali, Kullu, Kasol, Sangla, Chander Taal and other popular tourist destinations who were left stranded because of a breakdown of road network.
