The Dharamshala police have successfully dismantled an inter-state gang involved in online betting and cybercrime. Eleven individuals have been arrested thus far and sent on judicial remand till 22nd of this month whereas more arrests are anticipated. SP Kangra, Shalini Agnihotri, shared this information with the media, stating that two people from Paprola in Kangra district and nine people from Mohali in Punjab of Uttar Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh have been apprehended in connection with the case.
The police recovered several items during the arrests. From Paprola, they seized 10 laptops, 1 CPU, 1 hard disk, 6 mobile phones, 38 passbooks, 27 checkbooks, 24 ATM cards, and 20 SIM cards. From Mohali, they confiscated 3 laptops, 32 mobile phones, 10 ATM cards, 13 SIM cards, 1 Jio Fiber connection, 1 passport, 7 Aadhar cards, 8 PAN cards, and 3 voter cards.
SP Shalini Agnihotri mentioned that an FIR was lodged under 420 ipc on the 15th of the month at the Sadar Police Station in Dharamshala. The complainant reported unauthorized online transactions amounting to approximately 65 lakhs INR in his bank account within one month. Subsequent investigations revealed similar transactions in numerous other bank accounts, involving crores of rupees being transacted through online betting and other illicit activities.
The superintendent of police noted that further arrests of individuals involved in this inter-state gang are likely as the investigation progresses.
