Dharamshala: Vice-Chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh, Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri was relieved from the post of Vice Chancellor of the University on Thursday in Dharamsala, as the Chancellor of the University the President of India has entrusted the new responsibilities of Vice-Chancellor to Dr. Roshan Lal Sharma, Professor of the English Department of this University.
(Dr.) Kuldip Chand Agnihotri joined the Central University of Himachal Pradesh as Vice-Chancellor on 20th April, 2015. Before joining this university, he was serving in Punjab School Education Board as its Vice-Chairman.
On assuming the responsibility of the new Vice Chancellor in the university campus, Dr. Roshan Lal Sharma, Professor of English Department was welcomed and congratulated by the university staff.
According to Dr Pooja Awasthi , the post of vice-chancellor of Central University of Himachal Pradesh was running vacant for almost a year and on the instructions of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, Dr. Kuldeep Chand Agnihotri was given additional charge. But last month, he also resigned from the said post.
Now the Ministry of Education has informed the University that the President of India has entrusted the responsibility of the post of Vice- Chancellor to Dr. Roshan Lal Sharma, Professor of the Department of English till the appointment of the new Vice Chancellor in the University. And Dr. Sharma has taken over as Vice Chancellor of the University on Thursday.
Dr Awasthi said that registrar Hem Raj, the finance officer Narendra Thakur, the university’s academic staff union president, Dr. Khem Raj and the non-teaching staff union president Munish Kumar and other academic and non-teaching staff offered their greetings by presenting a flower bouquet to Dr. Roshan Lal Sharma.\
Professor Furqan Qamar was the first Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh and assumed office on 20th January 2010. He relinquished the post of First Vice-Chancellor on 25th June 2014 and joined Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi as its Secretary General.
Central University of Himachal Pradesh is a central research university headquartered from Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh, India. It is operating from a temporary campus at Shahpur, Kangra district, pending the construction of two permanent campuses, at Dehra and Dharamsala.
The university was founded in 2009 as a result of the government’s policy to establish Central Universities in each of the states that do not already have a central university. The Central University of Himachal Pradesh is established under the Central Universities Act 2009 (No. 25 of 2009) enacted by the Parliament.
