Kullu: Restricted movement of vehicles notwithstanding under the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, police here achieved a major breakthrough against the notorious drug mafia in the valley by arresting one person on Thursday morning with 42.05 Kg of Charas (Marijuana), one of the largest catches in recent years.
Briefing the media with the details, Gaurav Singh, district police chief said that it was during regular patrol at Fagu bridge in Banjar that a police team led by head constable Jagdish arrested Leeladhar, drive of a multi-utility vehicles (No. HP-41-0675) with the contraband. The arrested person is from Rewalser Mandi district, he added.
Singh said that seizing 42.o5 Kgs is the biggest catch of Charas in the last 17 years. The district police chief put a value of over Rs 50 lakhs in the domestic market and would be worth some crores in the international market.
A case under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act has been registered against the arrested person and the police are investigating the supply chain of this large consignment that was trying to find its way out of the valley.
Since June 2019 police in Kullu-Manali valley have seized a total of 218 kg of Charas.
Marijuana (Charas) produced in Kullu-Manali valley needs no introduction as it is one of the highest in demand contraband psychotropic substance in the world.
