Kullu: The all women grand Nati (dance), held on October 26, 2015 has been confirmed as a World Record by the authoritative Guinness Book of World Record, Rakesh Kanwar, district magistrate of Kullu announced here.
He said, “Confirmation was received that the ‘Largest Nati Dance’ with 9,892 participants is a world record in its category.
The mega Nati event in October was organised with a theme of ”Beti Hai Anmol” under the campaign to sensitize the populace about ‘Save the Girl Child’ in a society where the child sex ratio is crossing dangerous levels because of selective foeticide.
“It’s a matter of great pride not only for district or state but for the entire country that a local folk dance is now a world record which also forcefully communicates our important message about saving the girl child,” said Kanwar.
He added, ‘more than 13000 women had registered for participating in the event but eventually only 9,892 turned up for the grand Nati. A lot of last minute walkin participants for the traditional dance could not be officially registered because of strict guidelines that included a bar coding system.
Introduced as a Pride of Kullu event for 2014 Dussehra festival, which recorded 8540 women participants, one of the largest number of women dancers ever dancing together, entered into the Limca book of world records.
The October 2015 women dancers gathering turned out to be a larger gathering that was strictly documented, earning it a Guinness Book of World Records entry.
