SHIMLA: One of the oldest boarding schools for boys in Asia, Bishop Cotton School, Shimla founded in 1859, has been named as the top boy’s boarding institution in the country by the Education World India School Rankings 2014. It is followed by the famous Scindia School Gwalior and Doon School, Dehradun.
For the past six years Education World has been publishing the annual Education World India School Rankings with C fore, the well-known Delhi-based market research and opinion polls agency. They rate and rank over 800 of India’s most high-profile schools on 14 parameters, said Mr. Praveen Dharma, school spokesman.
The Bishop Cotton School has stood first in criteria like leadership and management quality, disabled friendliness and sports education.
The other parameters are academic reputation, faculty competence, teacher welfare and development, academic reputation, co-curricular education, discipline and life skills education, individual attention to students, parental involvement, infrastructure provision, quality of alumni and students, value for money, community service.
Situated on the South end of Knollswood Spur from the times of colonial Shimla, the school has a picturesque location and was started by the scholar of Westminster Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton on July 28, 1859. Mr. Roy Christopher Robinson is the present headmaster, who made the pleasant and proud announcement in the School Chapel in the morning assembly on Thursday, disclosed Yashvardhan Singh, the school captain who is himself an ace debater amongst the top convent schools in the country.
