Shimla Grabs “Best City Award for Public Services”

New Delhi:  Shimla, the “Queen of Hills” won the title for the “Best City for Public Services” at an award ceremony organized by the prestigious ABP News Group in New Delhi on 11th March, 2014.

The award was presented by Haroon Yusuf, and received by Mr. Sanjay Chauhan, Mayor of Shimla, on behalf of the town.

Shimla stood in good stead to win the title under the category ‘Public Services’ for its reliable transportation system, low frequency of power cuts, a well maintained water supply system; and adequate provisions and facilities for tourists visiting the town, be it honeymooners, or foreign tourists who come here from faraway lands.

Designed for a population of 20,000 people, today, the town is home to more than 2,00,000 (two lac) people. It’s a big challenge for the hill state to accommodate the ever growing population, provide them ample housing facilities, de-clutter the roads, and also generate employment opportunities for the youth.

I have just been to shimla and i have posted a story of dark side of tourism in hIMACHAL pAREDESH.. Please you must read this on care2 petition site and help the ones who are helping these people to get the awards.

Stop permoting tattapani as a tourist spot. Its is a hot water spring. Instead of making arrangement so that tourist could avail the and enjoy this.could have a bath there what we saw was all black magic and some sort of temples made in the tents. The banks of the river were dirty with black cloth which they use. It was such dirty site. .one has to walk with care that you don,t step on this. To avail hot water bath we had to go to nearby hotel and they charge. That kind of money every body can,t pay. I went to uttrakhand thirty years back that time they had made arrangements so on could use this resource here but these people are orthodox and living in superstitious. When I came i have written the dark side of tourism in himachal pardesh read it and then you will realize what the reality is. These awards are of no use .
