New Delhi, June 27 (IANS) The faction-ridden Delhi Congress Thursday put up a united front with Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and state unit chief J.P. Agarwal, describing the differences within the organisation as an internal matter.
Led by Dikshit and Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) chief Agarwal, the ruling Congress, which is completing its third term, is set to face the assembly polls in November.
“There are times when thoughts of each other do not match. Differences in the party is a family matter and it will remain a family matter. We must forget the difference among us and prepare ourselves to go for the battle (assembly elections),” Dikshit said addressing partymen here.
She was accompanied by Agarwal and newly-appointed in charge of Delhi Congress affairs and the party general secretary Shakeel Ahmed, who visited the DPCC office.
Agarwal, who is known to be at loggerheads with Dikshit for a long time, heaped praises on Dikshit, calling her one of the few powerful persons of the country.
“The Congress is not a broken party. We don’t want to be registered ourselves in the history as broken party. If we are united, there is no individual or party which can defeat us,” said Agarwal.
Addressing the party leaders, Ahmed said: “My work is to iron out the differences in the party. Though I am new in Delhi politics, I have to remove the communication gap in the party.”
