Himachal Pradesh University Odyssey youth festival concludes

Shimla: A lively two day cultural function, ODYSSEY, marked by performances of traditional dances, concluded at Himachal Pradesh University, here today.

Before a jam packed audience in the university auditorium, student artists presented lively traditional dances that had regional flavours of Kulavi, Sirmauri, Shimla, Kinnauri, Jhamakda, Sukati, Mandayali, Chambayali and Pangwali nati’s (folk dances).

The popular Punjabi male dance Bhangra and the ladies dance of Gidda were also part of the repertories of performances held. Besides some students also performed the Rajasthani and Kashmari dances.

Modern choreographed dances, mime, plays and skits were also enacted that enthralled the youngsters over the two days.

Speaking on the occasion Rahul Chauhan, president of Student Central Association (CSA) said, “motive of the function was to provide a platform for university students to display their talent. We deliberately did not invite any professional singer or artists as it would have defeated the very purpose for which we did organize the cultural function.”

With more thant 450 students who put up performances at the youth festival at which 60 items were preformed, ‘ODYSSEY’ is one of the best cultural functions held on the campus in recent years, old timers claimed.

Chief guest at the concluding function, Rakesh Singha, a former president of HPU said, “cultural ethos is the very foundation of our society and such function only imbibe the strong traditions among our students.
