New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) Himachal Pradesh Friday signed an agreement with the department of telecommunication and Bharat Broadband Network Ltd. to link village-level civic bodies with broadband connectivity, officials said.
As per the agreement, the central government will establish an optical fiber-based network for providing broadband facility in the state’s all gram panchayats.
State information technology director Maneesh Garg said the central government would set up telecom network on national optical fiber network for various types of applications in the gram panchayats as well as in the villages.
The entire project would be funded by the central government and the department of telecom would monitor and review its implementation, he said.
State Principal Secretary P.C. Dhiman, telecommunication ministry joint secretary V. Umashankar and Bharat Broadband Network director A.K. Bhargava signed the agreement in the presence of Information Technology Minister Kapil Sibal here.
