Patna, March 31 (IANS) Ashok Choudhary was Sunday named the new president of Congress’s Bihar unit.
Choudhary, who is in his mid-40s, replaces Choudhary Mahboob Ali Kaiser.
Speaking to media persons here, he said: “I am grateful to Congress president Sonia Gandhi for giving an important responsibility to a young man like me.”
“I will try to take all together to strengthen the Congress base in Bihar and to reach out to people ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls,” said Choudhary, a Dalit leader and former minister.
Choudhary was named a day after the state coordination committee meeting of the party here in which it was decided to strengthen the party’s base in the state. The Congress cuurrently has two MPs besides four legislators in the state.
Kaiser said he will extend all support to Choudhary.
