Shimla: The hill state has bagged the rare National Tourism Award that has been instituted by the union ministry of tourism and civil aviation and will be conferred on the state by President Pratibha Patial at Delhi on 29 February.
It’s a proud moment for the state, said chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal on getting an invite today for receiving the prestigious award.
Dedicating the award to the people of the state, especially those connected with tourism and hospitality industry, Dhumal said that in four years it was the 57th Award for the state and 24th in the tourism sector alone.
Conferment of the National Award was testimony that Himachal Pradesh has always been the destination of preference to all nature lovers and tourists within and outside the country, said Dhumal.
A total of 15,089,406 tourists are estimated to have visited Himachal Pradesh in 2011 of which 484,518 were foreign tourists. In 2010, the tourists estimated to have visited the state was put at 13,265,602 of which 453,610 were international tourists.

Probably the award giving people have not visited Kufri, a famous hill station of Himachal, for the last 2-3 years otherwise things would have been different.
