Speaking as a guest of honour at a function to honour police personnel at the rejuvenated Gaiety Theater, he said, ‘I will always belong to Shimla and feel more at home whenever I visit the place.’ The Gaiety Theater was the cradle where actor took his first acting lessons.

Commending the policemen for the yeoman’s job doing in policing the city, he said that changing the uniform from khaki to blue was a smart makeover.

Recalling the many memories he treasures even while handling heavy duty shooting schedules in Bollywood, Kher said that at school in DAV, Lakkar Bazar, he was never a bright student and always scraped through the exams with a borderline 35% pass grades.

In response to chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, who was the chief guest for the function and spoke before the actor, broaching the subject of Shimla needing a theater academy, Kher said, “there is a lot of talent prevalent here.”

After having set up theater academies at Mumbai, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh, there is definitely a desire to set up on here, he said.

“It will help to polish up the large pool of talent available and open up avenues in film, television and theater field, said Kher.

Policewala award function

Later the chief minister Dhumal honoured policemen with the Policewala of the Year 2011 awards, a program hosted by www.policewala.in that highlights the positive aspects of police across the country.

It is good to hear that Anupam Kher is considering opening a theater academy for grooming budding talent. He should execute it as early as possible. But He should also consider that it should not be a training place for prospective film actors. Actors like Anupam who have gone to films through theatre, should also work hard to promote theatre, particularly in Himachal where (except Shimla & Mandi) there is hardly any theatre.
