HC raps Himachal govt on plight of two upper Shimla roads

The Himachal Pradesh high court today pulled up the state government on the pitiable condition of the Shimla-Narkanda national highway.

The court bench comprising the chief justice Joseph Kurien and justice Sanjay Karol said the access from Shimla to Narkanda was not only difficult and wondered if this was actually a proper road despite being a tourist attraction and a road of strategic importance.

The court ordered the chief engineer, national highway authority of India as a new respondent in the case and directed him to file an affidavit after personally travelling from Shimla to Narkanda, identifying the problems and giving his proposals to repair this road.

While hearing the petition filed by D.C.Jaita about the delay in the widening work of the Theog-Hatkoti-Rohru road the court directed the SDMs at Theog and Rohru and the Land Acquisition Collector,Shimla to file an affidavit about the court cases, boundary disputes, removal of structures and the issue of blasting operations on the road.
