Shimla: The central government has turned down the state’s proposal to permit Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre officers to wear a trendy blue new dress in place of the traditional khaki uniform, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal let the house know today.
“A communication from the central government was received on Wednesday,†said Dhumal, who also holds home portfolio, said in the state assembly.
He said the state had sent a proposal to the centre Jan 31 to allow changing uniform colour of IPS officers. “Their approval was mandatory as any issue related to change of uniform of IPS officers come under the purview of the IPS (Uniform) Rules of 1954,†the chief minister said.
The 16,000-strong Himachal Pradesh police force in January this year switched to a blue new dress. The new uniform includes dark blue trousers, light blue shirt and blue beret. Accessories such as shoes and belts will remain black. Both policemen and policewomen will wear the same uniform. The state police are probably the third police force in the country to replace the old khaki uniform. The state of Goa of has also changed the police uniform and within West Bengal, police uniform for Kolkatta police had been changed.

if police uniform in goa and west bengal has been changed well it not clear if centre allowed it if yes why not permit the himachal police i wounder why?
