Una: At the upcoming ESI Medical College at Mandi, 50 percent of the seats in the college would be reserved for Himachal students, chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal announced.
Speaking at dedication of a new school building of a private school at Nehrian in Amb of district Una, the chief minister said that the new medical college would start from next academic session.
The government was according high priority to the education sector and had earmarked Rs 2567 Cr for education in the current financial year, which was not only 17% of the total budgetary provision but also the highest in the country, he claimed.
The state was committed to setting up medical and engineering colleges in every district in a phased manner to provide best professional education to students at their door steps, he said.
The government had allowed setting up of selected educational counter in different disciplines which could impart students world class education within the State.
The government had succeeded in getting the National Institute of Fashion Technology opemed at Chheb village near Kangra where students from different parts of the country were learning fashion technology.
A full-fledged Central University was being set up at Dehra and some of its offices would be housed at Dharamsala.
He said that IIT and ESI hospital had been opened in district Mandi and the first Bio-Technology University had also been set up in private sector.
Himachal Pradesh was poised to emerge an “Educational Hub” where world class educational facilities were being made available and Jaypee University of Information Technology was glaring example where 100 percent placement facilities were available to the students, said Dhumal.
At the same time the chief minister warned that the state would not allow opening of teaching shops but would only encourage centres of excellence so that interests of the students remain protected.
The state had also made legal provisions to regulate activities of the private universities, which was a new initiative in the country, said the chief minister.
