Himachal Pradesh University to serve notice on colleges short on staff-infrastructure

Shimla: For ensuring quality education in professional colleges affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), the executive council of the university on Saturday decided to serve notice on institutes who have been unable to recruit adequate faculty or improve infrastructure even as it decided to reserve one seat in colleges for single girl child.

With Vice-chancellor SK Gupta in the chair, the executive council’s monthly meet also decided upon reducing the fee for research scholars pursing PhD degrees, university spokesman Ranvir Verma said.

The council authorized the Vice-chancellor to take decision in respect to reserving one seat for single girl child in affiliated colleges.

The body also approved initiating departmental proceedings against wrestling coach Jagdish Kumar, who is under suspension, said the spokesman.

The Vice-chancellor, after welcoming Pankaj Singh, BLVinta and Shalini Sharma as new members to the council said that the union government Tribal Development Department had sanctioned Rs 3.61 crore for a new tribal girls hostel for the university.

He also said that HPU had signed two agreements with Russian Universities for undertaking joint research in the Institute of Integrated Himalayan Studies (IIHS).

The VC said that by withdrawing section 35A from the HPU Act, the state government had restored the autonomy status of the university.
