Swine flu death in Himachal sets alarms ringing – 587 put under preventive treatment

Shimla: With a 34 year old man from Chirgaon region of Shimla district having died here from swine flu on Thursday, health workers have fanned out into his native village and administered preventive treatment to those who had come in contact with him.

Anil Sharma (34), a resident of Gumma Tikkri village in Chirgaon Tehsil died at IGMC Hospital, where he was shifted to on 17th August.

Vinod Pathak, director health services confirmed it to a death from Swine Flu (H1N1).

The deceased had a history of travel and had gone to Delhi on 8th August and had returned on 12th August.

The health director said that a team of medical specialist consisting of a physician, pediatrician, microbiologist and epidemiologist has been stationed at Community Health Centre, Chirgaon.

Vinod Mehta, state disease surveillance officer disclosed that after a survey of the village, no active case of H1N1 was detected in Gumma village.

However, he said, 587 people in the village have been brought under the cover of preventive treatment, said Mehta.

Since the disease outbreak was reported in the state, a year ago, in all 17 people have died from the disease.
