Himachal to file contempt over commission charging at Azadpur Market

Shimla: Unable to get the Delhi government to implement non-charging of commission from fruit growers at Azadpur market, the Himachal government has decided to file a contempt petition for enforcing court orders.

Horticulture minister Narender Bragta after seeking legal opinion at meeting in Delhi today asked for serving contempt notices against Delhi government, chairman Delhi agriculture and marketing board and chairman Delhi APMC and filing of an contempt petition in Delhi High Court for ensuring implementation of its interim orders.

Earlier agriculture secretary Ram Subhag Singh met with DM Spolia, principal secretary-cum-commissioner development with Delhi government and sought his intervention for getting the Delhi government to implement the interim orders of Delhi High Court.

The government decided to take up contempt proceedings after fruit merchants in Azadpur market have not stopped charging of commissions from sellers, whereas as APMC bye-laws bind charging of commissions only from buyers.

In a petition filed by Himachal government, the Delhi High Court had granted an interim stay for charging of any commission from sellers, which include fruit growers. The case comes for its next hearing on 27 July.

Wonderful. HP govt. need to stay on top of this issue.

Having personally seen the descrimonation at the Azadpur Mandi 12 years back, I feel bad that HP govt. is unable do much in so many years.

Calculate the loss of revenue in those many years.
