Shimla: Hindustan Construction Company outbid three other competitors to bag the civil works construction contract worth Rs 431 crore for a 100 MW Sainj Hydroelectric project to be set up on a tributary of Beas River in Kullu district.
Announcing the global biding award, Tarun Kapoor, MD of HP Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL) said, “the civil works contract worth Rs 431 crore for 100 MW Sainj project was awarded to HCC on Thursday.â€
Designed as a run of the river development on river Sainj, a tributary of river Beas in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh, the 100 MW project is one of the several HPPCL projects is executing in Himachal which would give it a total generation capacity of over 1000 MW in the coming years.
Kapoor said that besides HCC, others who had bid for the Sainj project civil works package included Larsen & Tubro, Patel Engineering and Gammon in a joint venture with Marti of Switzerland.
Located about 52 Kilometers from Kullu, HCC would be responsible for Planning, Design & Engineering and execution of Civil & Infrastructure Works; Manufacturing, Fabrication, Assembling, Testing, Inspection, Transportation, Erection, Supervision and Commissioning of Hydro Mechanical equipment.
The project is expected to be completed and commissioned in 48 months.
Vinayak Deshpande, President & Chief Operating Officer, HCC said, “This prestigious contract demonstrates HCC’s EPC expertise in the hydel power development sector.
“We have further strengthened our robust order book with a significant portion coming from the Power segment,†he added.
HCC has been working in Himalayan geology earlier also and has and constructed the Head Race Tunnel and Surge Shaft for the 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Electric Project, the Underground Powerhouse and Tunnel for the Chamera I Project.
An HCC spokesman disclosed that they were currently engaged in executing 13 hydro-electric power projects, including four in Jammu & Kashmir, two in Himachal Pradesh, two in Bhutan and one each in Uttarakhand, Sikkim, West Bengal, Arunachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.
